HATHA YOGA

The most popular form of yoga practiced today is the Hatha Yoga – a sub-branch of Raja Yoga which focuses on meditation. In Hatha Yoga, the person’s wellbeing is a big contributor to the creation of the spiritual path of the body, so, in this case, breathing and posture while maintaining deep concentration must first be perfected.

The major component of the Hatha Yoga is the yoga posture or the asanas that is why this yoga is referred to as “tiring”. However, Hatha Yoga must not be confused with the ordinary exercise that we do in school though they are partly similar in nature.

Hatha Yoga and Exercise

Exercise is fatiguing because the movements are done with force and too much effort, like the push-ups, jumping jacks and running. In contrast, Hatha Yoga uses slow movements of the asanas performed.

The awareness of a person in exercise is external. Because most exercises are goal-oriented, the person focuses more on the attainment of a goal (e.g. a man must complete 20 push-ups in half a minute or a runner must be the first to reach the finish line). In Hatha Yoga, the awareness focuses on breathing and concentration – this is internal. What is important is not the amount of sweat you perspired during the activity but how you execute the asanas and movements according to how they should be done.

The Process of Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga combines breathing and asanas to exercise the body. For the purpose of healing, the concentration must focus directly on the sick body part. While breathing deeply, an asana can be performed to massage the said part.

A Hatha yoga posture, if done correctly, will be advantageous to one’s health. The discipline may seem difficult at first, but as you come to do it more often, you would feel that whatever pain is present in the beginning of the commitment will eventually be minimized.
Though the perfection of the spirit gives sense to Hatha yoga, it is the condition of the body that prepares the mind for meditation. A person in pain cannot focus well so how can the process of uniting the body, mind and spirit be achieved if this is the case?

Remember, Hatha Yoga must be performed not just with a calm, peaceful mind, but with fit and healthy body as well.

The Sensual Nature Of Nude Yoga

IN THE FLESH
The Sensual Nature Of Nude Yoga
Copyright 2005 Free Online Yoga Site

There is something about intimacy that brings us closer to our real selves. The feel of a loved one’s caress, for example, makes us feel happy for who we are and how we’re appreciated. A torrid kiss with a partner unleashes the basest of our emotions. A soft whisper arouses our feelings with warm anticipation of many wondrous promises. These are deeds that may be dismissed as sexual, but it’s their sensual nature that is of the essence. After all, sensuality defines our humanity. And this is the rationale behind nude yoga.

Nude yoga is not that difficult to understand. It is yoga, plain and simple, without the restrictions of clothes. It is easy to relegate nude yoga as a fetish, or even a perversion. But the fact of the matter is that nude yoga is all about purity and an honest exploration of our sensuality.

Nude yoga is one of the more spiritual types of general yoga practices. Tantra, or the ceremonial Hindu observance that encompasses all aspects of life, is deeply embedded in the principles of nude yoga. Many claim that this facet of nude yoga makes it a more efficient therapy to cure physical, mental and emotional defects that a person might be experiencing.

There are also some quarters who claim that nude yoga has greatly improved their sex life. This can be attributed to factors that are more incorporeal than bodily. Nude yoga increases vitality and endurance, as its exercises focus on the limbs and the cardiovascular system. But it is the ethereal touch of nude yoga that brings the most benefits. Being in harmony with Tantra, nude yoga helps the practitioner conjure an inner strength that greatly elevates his body to newer heights. It is not uncommon that nude yoga participants profess to feel younger and more enthusiastic immediately after a session.

Nude yoga is usually conducted with the aid of a partner. Indeed, many possibilities of intimate situations can arise, but it is important to keep these in check. In nude yoga, the priority is to help each other touch the innermost parts of themselves to bring out a renewed spirit that would eventually reinvigorate the body and the mind.

This is not to say that nude yoga cannot be practiced alone. It can, with equal efficiency at that, for as long as the person already has a firm grasp of the basics.

With all the wonderful things that it could bring, there should be no doubt on why nude yoga has been fondly embraced in many sectors of our society. It is neither fad nor an excuse for a fetish. Nude yoga is a lifestyle, and it is here to stay.

The Principles Of Kundalini Yoga

KNOW THYSELF
The Principles Of Kundalini Yoga
Copyright 2005 Free Online Yoga Site

Kundalini Yoga is all about energy – its existence, its flow, and its benefits. The principle of Kundalini Yoga focuses mainly on the role of energy and its power to awaken the spiritual consciousness in us.

It is actually safe to say that Kundalini Yoga is the most spiritual among the many classes of the discipline. Here’s an interesting fact. Almost 78% of the human population is unaware of who they really are and what their purpose on Earth is. 16% confirmed that they already have an idea on the reason of their existence, but is still uncertain if this discovery is on the right track. And, only 6% found peace on the truth of their identity – most of them are Kundalini yoga practitioners.

Kundalini Yoga literally means “coiling”, like a snake or a serpent. In Kundalini Yoga literature, the said coiled serpent is within the base of an individual’s spine. This is the channel where energy is created and by which it travels up to the crown of the head to distribute the said energy to the different parts of the body.

Kundalini Yoga aims to balance our spirits by means of an unexploited potential energy which we are unaware that we possess since birth. Kundalini Yoga experts conclude that this can only be achieved if we learn to connect our personal energy with the universal flow of a more essential energy outside.

There is a variety of Kundalini Yoga exercises which would help increase the amount of energy flowing in our bodies. This helps achieve total rejuvenation. Physical exercises, like completing a certain asana, can develop flexibility of the body, which helps make the flow of energy easier. The functions of body parts can also be in its fullest capacity in this kind of exercise. Breathing filters the blood and respiration from any impurities and at the same time promotes a mastery of emotion. This is highly necessary because our awareness of ourselves also depends on our emotional state. Relaxation exercises decrease stress, while meditation generates harmony and peace of mind –the essential elements of a spiritual being.

Personal awareness is the primary reason why energy is important especially to the spiritual beings like humans. Kundalini Yoga offers the “abilities” to individuals – the ability to complete a duty or task by themselves, the ability to work and the ability to wake their consciousness, all using personal efforts.

Power Yoga For The People

HIGH IMPACT HINDU
Power Yoga For The People

Whoever said that yoga is the discipline of the gentle hasn’t heard of power yoga. Power yoga is a refreshing, if not intriguing, hybrid of yoga and exhausting aerobic exercise, resulting in a total workout that frees the mind and strengthens the body. It is not uncommon that power yoga is sometimes referred to as “yogaerobics,” an amalgam that is both witty and apt.

Whereas a normal yoga workout involves pauses in between positions, power yoga is one continuous exercise that tests the limits of the human body. Power yoga positions are also held longer than the normal five breaths required for normal yoga. It is a demanding challenge that would push and develop your body’s strength and endurance as well as your mind’s will and fortitude.

Coined by Beryl Bender Birch, power yoga is often held in a humid room to add more pressure to our physical threshold. The idea behind power yoga is to train us in alarmingly draining gauntlet to acquaint our minds and bodies to this type of situation. In so doing, our faculties would only grow sturdier.

The benefits of power yoga are too grand to ignore. Better resistance against diseases, toned muscles, weight loss, a stronger cardiovascular system, stress busting, increased immunity against toxic substances and better endurance and flexibility are but a few of the guarantees that regular power yoga exercises can bring.

This is not to say that power yoga deviates from the yoga we all know. The fact of the matter is that power yoga shares the same commitment to unite the body, mind and spirit through its rather distinct activities. In fact, power yoga borrows heavily from its classical cousins, Ashtanga, Bikram and Iyengar yoga, in terms of the form and substance of the exercises involved.

Power yoga is but the natural offspring of classical yoga types. It has developed as a classification of its own by merging Eastern and Western philosophies about the discipline, and the end result is a refreshing workout system that has benefited a lot of people across the globe.

So if you’re looking for a total workout solution, do give power yoga a try. Given the popularity of this new discipline, a power yoga center can most certainly be found in your area.

Yoga Posture For Physical Rejuvenation

Yoga Posture For Physical Rejuvenation

Yoga posture or asanas gives the yoga process its meaning. With yoga uniting the body, mind and spirit, the asanas, which literally means “seat,” provides the sturdy foundation.

Each yoga posture made by a yogi (a person who practices the art and discipline of yoga) reflects the needs of the body, but many people do not know how to determine what is lacking. The most effective way is to listen to your body – you may not be aware of it but it tells you directly what it needs.

Yoga posture does not just call you to flex or bend or stretch your various limbs. Every yoga posture strengthens your body and mental focus, hence, sincerity and dedication are of the essence, least the rudiments of yoga become lost in the process.

How Did Yoga Postures Come About?

In ancient times, the yogis started to be amazed with the unique movements and the strong stamina of the animals around them, so they observed animal activities every day– from the way that snakes feed to the way that cats sleep. Yoga experts then concluded that certain postures help the animals survive longer, regardless of the kind of environment they are in. Cats, for example, stretch out their spines from time to time to relax their bodies, which for the yogis of yore, was a perfectly logical posture, given that the spine is the backbone of the body. This acute observation paved the way for the type of yoga posture patterned after a cat’s habit.

Also, the knowledge in human physiology and anatomy added much to the numerous yoga postures of today. In fact, many yoga postures target specific body parts to stimulate blood circulation and promote the healthy development o our glands.

What Are The Principles Followed In Yoga Posture?

Yoga posture involves the following fundamental components:

1. Breathing. Breathing releases stress and tension from the body. This gives the body additional oxygen that reinvigorates its constituents. It is not surprising that the yogis equated life with the air we breathe.

2. Stretching. How would you feel after a long nap where you were unwittingly stuck in a restrictive sleeping position? Experiencing body aches is just normal but you still need to loosen up those tightened muscles and ligaments in order to relax. Yoga postures aim to loosen up the ligaments that have numbed because of the uncomfortable predicaments the body undergoes on a constant basis.

3. Concentration. Focus. All you need to start up with a yoga posture, besides good breathing, is a well-concentrated mind. Be specific with what you want to do and achieve in your yoga activity for the day. A less distracted mind can be very responsive especially in complicated situations. Some yoga postures can even help your mind to focus.

4. Gravity. Inverted yoga postures, such as the headstand and the shoulder stand, uses gravity to improve the blood circulation in the upper body. Upright yoga postures, on the other hand, are meant for the lower body. In yoga postures, gravity is used to one’s advantage in rejuvenating the body.
