1. Breathing. Breathing releases stress and tension from the body. This gives the body additional oxygen that reinvigorates its constituents. It is not surprising that the yogis equated life with the air we breathe.

2. Stretching. How would you feel after a long nap where you were unwittingly stuck in a restrictive sleeping position? Experiencing body aches is just normal but you still need to loosen up those tightened muscles and ligaments in order to relax. Yoga postures aim to loosen up the ligaments that have numbed because of the uncomfortable predicaments the body undergoes on a constant basis.

3. Concentration. Focus. All you need to start up with a yoga posture, besides good breathing, is a well-concentrated mind. Be specific with what you want to do and achieve in your yoga activity for the day. A less distracted mind can be very responsive especially in complicated situations. Some yoga postures can even help your mind to focus.

4. Gravity. Inverted yoga postures, such as the headstand and the shoulder stand, uses gravity to improve the blood circulation in the upper body. Upright yoga postures, on the other hand, are meant for the lower body. In yoga postures, gravity is used to one’s advantage in rejuvenating the body.
